Findley Lake, NY

A few weekends ago we had a chance for a little getaway.   We didn’t want to drive too far and searched for something interesting within a 2 hour drive from our home in Northeast Ohio.  We had driven through western New York state on a previous vacation but did not have time to explore so we chose that area for our mini-vacation.  What a beautiful part of the country it is!  Serene lakes with with vacation cottages, historical sites, wineries, dairy farms.   This post is about the Findley Lake part of the trip.  Look for subsequent posts on Chautauqua Lake and the Chautauqua wine region.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express at exit 4 off Interstate 86.  It is a very nice hotel, very clean, friendly staff.  Has an indoor pool and an excersize room, free hot breakfast.  The one big drawback is it does not have Wi-Fi in the rooms, only in the lounge/breakfast area.  There is free wired internet access in the rooms.  I would stay there again, but I would really like to stay in a cottage on the lake next time I visit.

So let’s start the tour …

Now that you’ve found our little gem, don’t be a stranger. The Blue Heron Inn, across from Zee’s on the Lake is a great place to stay. Cottages and other types of rentals are listed under Lodging on the Chamber website: Pontoon boat and kayak rentals available at Findley Lake Marine plus canoe and powered fishing boats rentals available at Paradise Bay Park on Shadyside. And yes, Sunnyside is sunny and Shadyside is shady. Can beat the location for scenery and easy drives to lots of local attractions. On gray days Findley Lake looks like a quaint New England village. On sunny days it’s like a beautiful town on the Finger Lakes. Everyday it’s just great to visit or live here.
