Where the little fishies live….

Just how small a fish can you catch with a medium sized hook and wax worms?  Turns out, pretty small!

Baby Bass

This is the smallest bass I’ve ever seen!  Dana and I went fishing Saturday night at Veterans Park here in Mentor, Ohio.  (You might remember Veterans Park from my post, “My Favorite Swamp.”)  It was a hot and muggy night.  We sprayed ourselves down with mosquito repellant, got some wax worms, nightcrawlers and soft craws …

… and proceeded to catch some of the smallest fish we’ve ever seen!  I caught a lot of small bluegills, Dana caught three of those little bass and he also caught this baby bullhead.

Baby bullhead

There were lots of families fishing, mostly on the docks.  They weren’t having as much “luck” as we were!

However, we were all having fun.  There are some bigger fish in this lake, we did see one fellow catch a pretty good size bass.  We also saw a toad,  and 5 deer, all bucks, ambled through the woods behind us.

As the sun set, we all gathered up our gear and set off with plans to try again another day!
