A Book Review

Just finished reading A Naturalist Buys An Old Farm by Edwin Way Teale.  I can’t remember how I stumbled onto this book.  Published in 1974, it is the story of Trail Wood, the farm Mr. Teale and his wife, Nellie, bought in the 50’s, near Hampton, Connecticut.  In this book, he takes you on a tour of the farm field by field and season by season.  I enjoyed reading his observations of plants, animals, birds and insects.  It made me really think about how we see the world around us, more importantly, how we don’t see.  After I started the book I did some research and found that the Teale’s both died some years ago, which made me sad, but then I found that they donated their farm to the Connecticut Audubon Society.  You can visit their web site at http://www.ctaudubon.org/visit/trailwood.htm.  It looks like a beautiful place, preserved in the way the Teale’s would have wished.
